• Bursting and Blooming

For this project, we were tasked with developing an alter ego that amplifies, undermines or rediscovers an element of ourselves. “Bursting and Blooming” is a concept design for my alter ego: a tailor named Marie Jacqard.

Lily-Line Art
As a graphic designer, whenever I think about a tailor, their beautiful line art sketches are the first thing that comes to mind. Therefore, I started the design process by creating a lineart drawing of my favorite flower, the lily.

Lily-Line Embroidery Art
The most exciting thing to me about being a tailor is the amazing embroidery experience. To me, the difference between a tailor and a graphic designer, is that a tailor uses thread to create art instead of using pixels.

“Bursting and Blooming” is a concept design for my alter ego: a tailor named Marie Jacqard. I created several patterns of a lily from a hand-sketch, to digital line art and embroidery. After creating embroidery of the lily, I experimented with adding some dimension to this profession by creating a light box installation. The installation was constructed with 6 layers, lights and motor. It displayed different patterns created from these 6 layers. The design of this installation was a result of applying a tailor’s layering process to graphics.
